Our program
Our educational program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standard (NQS) and is designed to provide children with meaningful, play-based learning experiences that support their growth, development, and wellbeing. We recognise that every child is unique, bringing their own interests, strengths, culture, and abilities to our learning environment.
Our educators carefully observe, listen to, and engage with children to develop experiences that reflect their interests and extend their learning. Through intentional teaching and spontaneous learning opportunities, we encourage children to explore, investigate, create, solve problems, and develop confidence as capable and competent learners.
Our program incorporates a balance of child-led and educator-guided experiences across all areas of learning, including literacy, numeracy, science, creative arts, music, movement, language, social and emotional development, and physical wellbeing. Children are encouraged to learn through exploration, collaboration, and hands-on experiences both indoors and outdoors.
The learning environment is regularly adapted to reflect children's emerging interests and developmental needs. Families play an important role in our program, and we value their input by working in partnership to support each child's learning journey. Regular observations, documentation, and reflections allow us to assess children's progress, celebrate their achievements, and plan for ongoing learning in line with the EYLF learning outcomes.

Play-based
We value play-based learning because it provides children with meaningful opportunities to explore, discover, create, and make sense of the world around them. Through play, children develop confidence, independence, problem-solving skills, creativity, and resilience while building positive relationships with others. Our educators intentionally plan and extend play experiences based on each child's interests, strengths, and developmental needs, supporting learning across all areas of development. School readiness
Our School Readiness Program is designed to help children develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need for a successful transition to school. Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standard (NQS), we provide engaging, play-based experiences that foster early literacy, numeracy, communication, problem-solving, self-regulation, and social skills. Through intentional teaching, hands-on learning, and meaningful routines, children build resilience, confidence, and a love of learning, ensuring they are well prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.
Interest based
Our interest-based program is guided by the children's ideas, curiosities, and emerging interests. Through careful observation and meaningful interactions, our educators plan engaging experiences that build on what children are naturally interested in, making learning relevant, enjoyable, and purposeful. Whether children are fascinated by dinosaurs, construction, gardening, insects, art, or transport, we use these interests to encourage exploration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving across all areas of learning. Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), our program promotes children's agency, supports their individual strengths, and fosters a lifelong love of learning.
Special Events
At Sefton Childcare, we host a variety of special events throughout the year that create memorable and engaging experiences for children and their families. From Teddy Bear Picnics and Pyjama Days to cultural celebrations and themed activity days, these events encourage creativity, social interaction, and a sense of fun. They also provide opportunities for children to build confidence, strengthen friendships, and create lasting memories while fostering a strong sense of belonging within our childcare community.
Sustainability Projects
Sustainability is a vital part of everyday life at Sefton Childcare. Through hands-on projects and daily practices, children develop an appreciation for the environment and learn the importance of caring for our planet. Activities such as recycling, gardening, composting, water conservation, and reusing natural and recycled materials encourage children to become responsible, environmentally conscious citizens while fostering curiosity, respect for nature, and lifelong sustainable habits.
Indigenous Perspectives
At Sefton Childcare, we are committed to embedding Indigenous perspectives into our daily program in meaningful and respectful ways. Through storytelling, music, art, cultural experiences, and learning about the histories and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, children develop an appreciation for Australia's First Nations cultures. These experiences foster respect, inclusion, cultural awareness, and a strong sense of connection to Country, community, and one another.
Our incursion
Our incursion program enriches children's learning by bringing a variety of engaging experiences directly into our centre. These experiences complement our educational program and provide opportunities for children to explore new interests, develop new skills, and build confidence in a familiar environment. Depending on the children's interests and our planned curriculum, incursions may include music and movement, cultural experiences, science and nature activities, animal encounters, health and wellbeing programs, storytelling, or creative arts. Each incursion is carefully selected to support the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), promote curiosity and active participation, and extend children's learning through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
Pasta Amore
Children enjoyed a hands-on pasta-making experience where they developed their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while learning to use a variety of kitchen tools. This engaging activity encouraged creativity, independence, concentration, and confidence as children explored the pasta-making process through play and discovery. Working together also promoted communication, teamwork, and an appreciation for cooking and healthy food preparation.
Smyla Dental
Children enjoyed a valuable learning experience with the Smyla Dental team, where they had the opportunity to meet dental professionals and become familiar with the role of a dentist. Through engaging discussions and demonstrations, children learned about the importance of dental hygiene, including how to brush and floss their teeth correctly and make healthy food choices to care for their smiles. Children also participated in dental check-ups, helping them develop confidence and positive attitudes towards visiting the dentist. This experience supported children's wellbeing, self-care skills, and understanding of the importance of maintaining good oral health.
Chicks R Us!
Children enjoyed an engaging and hands-on learning experience with Chicks R Us, where they explored the fascinating life cycle of a chicken. Through observing and interacting with the chicks, children learned about the different stages of development, from eggs and hatching to baby chicks and grown chickens. This experience encouraged curiosity, inquiry, and a deeper understanding of the natural world. Children developed their observation skills, responsibility, and appreciation for living things while engaging in meaningful conversations and asking questions about animals and their care.
Our Excursions
Our excursions provide children with valuable opportunities to explore the wider community and extend their learning beyond the classroom. Carefully planned to complement our educational program and the children's interests, excursions encourage curiosity, independence, and real-world learning. Whether visiting local libraries, primary schools, community spaces, or participating in cultural and environmental experiences, children develop a sense of belonging and connection to their community. Chester Hills Library Visit
Our children enjoyed an exciting visit to the Chester Hill Library, where they had the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of books, stories, and community learning. During the visit, children engaged in storytelling sessions, explored different types of books, and developed their language, communication, and literacy skills. The experience encouraged children to develop a love for reading, use their imagination, ask questions, and build confidence in engaging with the wider community.
HIM Primary School Visit
Our children enjoyed a special visit to HIM Primary School, where they had the opportunity to become familiar with the school environment and experience what their future school journey may look like. The visit supported children’s transition to school by allowing them to explore the classrooms, meet teachers and students, and participate in engaging activities. This experience helped build children’s confidence, independence, and excitement about starting school while strengthening connections between our early learning service and the wider community.
Our extra-curricular activities
At Sefton Childcare, we offer a range of extra-curricular activities that enrich children's learning beyond the daily program. These experiences, including soccer and other rotated engaging activities, promote physical development, teamwork, confidence, and social skills while encouraging children to explore new interests, develop their talents, and have fun in a supportive environment.

At Sefton Childcare, we celebrate a variety of community and cultural events throughout the year, including Mother's Day, Easter, ANZAC Day, Harmony Week, Book Week, and many more. These celebrations provide meaningful opportunities for children to learn about different traditions, cultures, and significant occasions while fostering a sense of belonging, respect, and inclusion. Through creative activities, storytelling, music, and shared experiences, children build connections with their peers, families, and the wider community.
